Early Spider-Man Prototype Shared by Insomniac and How a Key Mechanic Became a Cornerstone for its Combat

At the devcom, the Insomniac Games talked about their latest projects and one of them is Spider-Man PS4 which is a popular game. On this event, they shared some interesting and unique information about the project such as the implementation of one key mechanic that is not present in the previous prototype of this game, but it is ended up as a significant cornerstone of all combat.


Its keynote is done by the Jacinda Chew who is Insomniac Games art director. She starts the theme by firstly walking through the previous prototype for their different games such as Ratchet and Clank as well as the Sunset Overdrive.

The Insomniac Games developed a great prototype initially during the game jam for sunset override.

They considered a large number of enemies and bosses for the Spider-Man game.

The Insomniac Games shared an unused concept for the Sunset Overdrive which is realistic according to them, but it does not fit their lighter aesthetic.

Fast travel is not the priority as well as part of the previous prototype. It was added later into Spider-Man that becomes an important feature.
